Bailey's Birds ~ Little Help From My Friends ~ Fundraiser

We've been so busy that we haven't had time
for posting regular and for that we apologize
We'll post a few updated things for you all
We are hosting a Fundraiser to try and help us with
Chicken expenses please take a moment to share with everyone you know.
We have a meager goal 150 shirts to sell
we must sell 11 for them even to print.

Bailey wants to keep around 25 chickens, Plus a few younger ones
to show and sell. She is wanting part of these to feed the family
with meat and eggs. I think it is quite and industrious idea
for such a young gal.
Our sweet 6 yr old entrepreneur needs to get thru the winter
with supplies food, and wire fencing. But she needs another incubator
which with hatching chicks will help the chickens pay for themselves.
We will probably purchase a second hand one in good condition to save
funds.
I am surprised Chickens were such a good fit with her. and every aspect
she is having positive dealings.
We are just passing ove our Christmas Eve hatching chicks.
We hatched 17 sold 14 and kept 2 in hopes one will look like her original
Hen she won from school.
This was her second hatch, and her Blended EE's have sold very well.

This fundraiser will also help her to teach other kids about chickens,
and give her the flexibility to do what she wants, which is giver a few
chickens(chicks) away. It has taught her about life lessons, time management
skills, and even public speaking skills (it gives her a common ground with folks
to overcome shyness).

Please consider our fundraiser.

How can we NOT share cutie patootie pics with you all
Here is our latest additions to our flock

I personally think these are going to be really cool
to watch develop. Their mother and father are both beautiful black bantams.
We love their iridescent feathering and little reddish color on the male.

Gonzo & The Flock

Gonzo will be 1 month old on Tuesday, June 3rd.
We will be having a Corn Biscuit B-day Party and all
chicks are invited.

Here's a look at Sophira & Scar today
as they scratched thru a bit of worm dirt for
a little treat.

Sarah (Hopefully a Partridge Plymouth Rock)

Kayce Still like to be handled a good bit

Sarafina Short Fat & Happy

Alice Feathers Be Changing

We're watching Sarah & Kayce close, we plan to show one or both in the fair.
We also plan to get a hold of a silkie roo to see if we can hatch off some
partridge silkies. (Teddy Bear Chickens are awesome)

Have a great day
Come back for more updates soon.

Butterscotch 2 months old

Butterscotch is 2 months old
We're having a corn biscuit party on Tuesday when
Gonzo turns 1 month old.

Butterscotch reminds me of a cat.
Very independent, but extremely curious every
time you visit. She still loves my fingernails.
She also will come to you and be very still when
she wants a little pick me up.

She has developed some black feathers on her
tail that are beautifully edged in gold, & very
iridescent in the sunlight.

She is also getting a few patches of dark red_gold
on her sides. We're excited to see how she is
colored up by Laying time.

We also cleaned out the Perma-coop today.
There were 30 silkie eggs from previous tenants.

We're looking at a move in date of June 27th

Look at Butterscotch now.

Expecting first eggs around the day School Starts Back.

Have a great day

Duckling Rescue

Sometimes you just have to say Whoa!
This is what we did at the farm this week as the
farmer was going to end a little Mallard duckling's
life, because he thought he was too sickly to go
on. So for now we have Wilbur (Charlotte's Web Ref)
It may turn out to be a feisty Wilma...LOL

We tried to see if the chickens would let in another
roommate, alas but no. So we will strengthen it up
enough to release back onto the farm.

It took about 12 hours for it to decide the Hunger Strike
was not the way to go :) We all felt better after it decided to
have a little crumbles.
This is a Farm Duckling, but those ducks do not get handled
so I get this is a big change of life. Pet life has advantages
both kids are already wanting to let it in the shower with them.
Something the chicken didn't like at all...:)

Anyway it'll get our feet wet so to say with Raising Ducks.
We wanted to get a few Cayuga next spring, or Indian runners.
We want to not have to buy eggs again, so the Poultry
Experiment will continue.

Wilbur is about 1 week old in these images.
I hope the kids have fun.
We're going into the yard with a large kiddy pool today.

You know this will be a fun photo project for me.

Have A Blessed Day

Flock Update

Well these chicks are around 2 1/2 weeks old now,
with Gonzo being the eldest at 3 weeks and 1 day.

I though I'd show how much these Chicks have grown this last week

Gonzo has fluffed out a little
and is looking a bit more attractive.
Someone said it's a he but we will see.
I come out of the box EVERY time the top is lifted.
I fly quite well.

Sarafina the Heritage Mahogany Rhode Island Red
is quite the character, & the most tolerant of
being handled at all times. I can almost reach the
top of the box with my fluffy wings.

Sophira The Barred rock has doubled in size
and her new barred feathers are showing so pretty.
She is very independent but friendly.
She also like to be with her flock, calling
LOUDLY to them when she is out of the box alone.
She is a great flyer at this time.

Sarah & Kayce We don't know what your history/breeding is
but you guys sure are cute. Kayce has become quite
friendly, while Sarah doesn't let her get too far or
too much attention from her...:)These two are great flyers
and can hit the edsges of the box from one side to the other
No Problem. We just wish we knew the breed.

Alice the Silver Laced Wyandotte
She will be our lap chicken I am sure.
She just gets on your knee and takes a chill.
She's working out her wings a lot
but she can't quite reach the top lip
of the box.

We don't know what Gender you are little
Polish Bantam Scar (Scarlett) but
we're glad you finally got used to us. Quite flighty
and skiddish to start, but now flies to top of box rim
just to be petted then back down in the box Chicky will hop.
We can't wait to see how your hair grows out.

I Believe these critters are moving to the Farm this weekend
so they'll have lots of time to get acquainted with Butterscotch

We've had a fluttering good time with these chicks
but I do not see us working with more than a couple at a time again.
One tip to remember, cleanliness is a must.
When these chicks leave our bathroom it's getting
disinfected & steam cleaned, top to bottom.
Salmonella is no joke.
Do not feel intimidated by visitors, be sure
they wash before handling chicks & after. It's important
to make the kids understand & appreciate nature's good sides
& not so desirable sides (like germs).

We're excited for these guys/gals to get in the permanent coop.
I think we are going to use the deep litter method for composting
purposes. We're clearing out the old eggs this weekend, They'll be
tilled into the garden by the tomatoes for a calcium boost, as well
as deer repellant if there's any odor left.
You can look at my other blog

heyyallitsmev.blogspot.com "What...Me bloggin'...?"
for more info on calcium needs of tomatoes
just plug in Calcium to the blogger search bar on the right.

Have a great Friday
