Spiderwort ~ Have A Nice Day
I encourage folks to document
botanicals in their immediate presence
whether it's something you planted,
or a newly spotted weed.
All documentation is useful, please share
any unusual weeds or plants you're proud of
with us at Twitter (@HerbGir1972)
or at Facebook (facebook.com/earthsourceservicessc7)
Spiderwort ~ Tradescantia
en.wikipedia.org
Tradescantia, the Spiderworts,
is a genus of an estimated 71 species of perennial plants
in the family Commelinaceae, native to the New World from
southern Canada south to northern Argentina.
This particular patch of Spiderwort was brought to
our new house from our old home where I grew up.
It grows in clumps & looks a lot like grass & even
gets mowed in our old backyard.
It can be a little scraggly, & even invasive.
It would be a great plant for a Natural area that
doesn't have a full day's hottest sunlight.
Seems very adaptive to all soil types, moisture levels,
& soil acidity levels.
We started with quite a small clump, & now I pot up and
the roamers.
There are several interesting colored species,
I do know the chartreuse leaved variety will burn
quickly and look undesirable if it's positioning
is in too much sunlight.
